The Ultimate SMU Mac Knowledge Base Wiki

Page history last edited by Remi Choong 13 years, 3 months ago

Note

This guide is to assist all SMU Mac Users in SMU with the configuration of their Macs in SMU. This is a compilation of some guides by other users mostly from Mac Users Group (Singapore) as well as from KianHean and SMUMacness, credit is given where possible. Think of this as a self editing and updating manual! This is only possible with people like you who will update this!

Snow Leopard Compatibility

This guide is mostly optimized for snow leopard compatibility, other methods compatible with other versions of OSX will be posted when available

Facts about Macs in SMU

  • Macs get very little support from IITS. Hence the reason for this wiki! We want to provide support for Mac users cheaply and efficiently!
  • IITS is not obliged to help you with your Mac problems, although they will sometimes try, don't expect 100% support from their office as they are not contracted to help macs, please try to understand that.
  • Documents do not look 100% alike when I am doing projects with other pc users - this depends on the complexity of your document (CAT projects probably won't, unless you are using some windows emulation). Most basic documents will look very similar, especially if you are using Office 2011 for mac.
  • There is no need for antivirus software. There really isn't but if you are paranoid or want to help stop the spread of viruses to other PCs you could get one.
  • Learning how to use a mac is like learning how to use a PC! Read and read! Here is a good start!  If you read alot from this site, you will be a pro in no time!
